About · Longevity doctor, Brisbane

Dr Joshua Hatch

Opse Health is built around one accountable doctor: a Fellowship-qualified GP (FRACGP) practising longevity and preventive medicine in Brisbane, with an unusual foundation for the work. A decade in medical imaging, then hospital orthopaedics, then general practice.

Dr Joshua Hatch

Dr Hatch's career is built around the hardest part of preventive care: judgement. He spent roughly a decade as an MRI and emergency radiographer before medicine, worked as a hospital orthopaedic registrar, qualified as a Fellow of the RACGP, and still assists in surgery today. That path informs how he brings test results into your broader care plan.

For people who have already had a whole-body MRI, Dr Hatch reviews the images alongside the radiologist's report and your clinical history. This is a GP consultation about findings and follow-up, not a replacement for a specialist radiology report. He discusses further assessment, monitoring or referral where indicated. Whole-body MRI screening is not routinely recommended for people without symptoms, known cancer or a cancer-predisposition syndrome.

That is the philosophy of Opse. The value is in the judgement: mapping your risk, deciding what is worth doing, interpreting results as one coherent picture, and following through over years.

It is also a program built to a standard. Opse was developed over two years alongside a clinical pharmacist trained in appraising evidence, so recommendations are anchored to current, critically appraised science and refined as the evidence moves.

“The value isn't in ordering more tests. It's in deciding what's worth doing, and following it through.”

The path here

Imaging, then hospital orthopaedics, then general practice.

Experience that informs clinical assessment and follow-up.

Foundation

Medical imaging

Roughly a decade working as an MRI and emergency radiographer, working with scans daily long before reviewing them as a doctor.

Hospital

Orthopaedic registrar & surgical assisting

Four years as a hospital orthopaedic registrar, and ongoing work as a surgical assistant: a structural, operative view that still shapes how he assesses movement, pain and injury.

Practice

General practice & Fellowship

Fellowship-qualified GP (FRACGP) practising face-to-face, longitudinal preventive medicine.

Clinical focus

Where the expertise concentrates.

Longevity & preventive medicine

Mapping chronic-disease risk early and acting on it: cardiovascular, cancer, metabolic, neurocognitive and mental health.

Metabolic & body composition

DEXA-led body composition, visceral fat and bone density read as trends, with evidence-based interpretation.

Cardiovascular & cancer risk

Cardiovascular risk assessment and personalised cancer screening discussions, including the potential benefits, limitations and next steps for each test.

Exercise, strength & VO₂ max

Cardiorespiratory fitness, strength and body composition, with exercise prescribed for the individual rather than from a generic program.

Brain & cognitive health

Neurodegenerative risk weighed in context, with the modifiable factors addressed early.

Evidence-based screening

Screening weighed in the open, with its downsides, false positives and follow-up explained before you decide.

Decided with you

Every screening test is talked through and weighed against its downsides, never assumed.

Evidence-graded

Recommendations are tied to the strength of the evidence, and stated plainly when the evidence is thin.

Accountable over years

One doctor, with planned retesting and follow-through, not a report you never revisit.
